SAMETI organises training for ATMA functionaries on integrated pest management in agricultural and horticultural crops

DIMAPUR — State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) has organised a three-day training programme on “Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in agricultural and horticultural crops” for ATMA functionaries from April 15 to the 17th.
Delivering the inaugural speech, the director of SAMETI and principal of IETC, Bodevi Shuya, stressed on the importance of IPM in all agricultural activities. He encouraged the participants to engage actively in the training programme and pass down the knowledge to the farmers.
An update from SAMETI stated that Dr. Waluniba and Dr. Hijam Shila Devi, both associate professors of Entomology Department at NU: SAS Medziphema campus; Dr. Sable Mangesh Gajanan, assistant plant protection officer, and Rameshwar Telangre, plant protection officer (PP) from the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, GoI, were the resource persons.

The topics covered during the programme included crop specific IPM in horticultural crops, successful bio-control programmes, pest surveillance and monitoring of agro-ecosystem to evaluate pest population, hands-on practical session on NPSS (National Pest Surveillance System) and crop specific IPM in agronomical crops.
It stated that field visits to the Insect Museum, Department of Entomology, Disease Museum, Department of Plant Pathology and the Institutional Museum at NU: SAS were undertaken.
The valedictory programme was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar deputy project director of SAMETI, while Bodevi Shuya, director of SAMETI and principal of IETC, Medziphema, delivered the concluding remarks.
It added that 27 ATMA functionaries were awarded certificates.
