Dimapur, June 16 (EMN): Extension Education Institute-North East Region (EEI-NER), Assam Agriculture Management (AAU), Jorhat, in collaboration with State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) has organised training on ‘Skill for using ICT in agriculture’ from June 5-8 at SAMETI, Medziphema.
The training was aimed at equipping ATMA functionaries with the knowledge and skills of ICT application in agriculture so as to effectively disseminate timely information to the farming community.
Resource persons of the training were Dr. AK Bhattacharya, professor EEI (AAU); M Dutta, research associate EEI (AAU); and P Sharma, research associate EEI (AAU).
Topics on ‘Importance of ICTs and its application in agriculture extension,’ ‘Information needs of the farming community,’ ‘Problems and prospects/ opportunities in application of ICT,’ ‘Mobile Apps and its application in agriculture extension,’ ‘Practicing mobile Apps,’ ‘Social media as a tool for extension,’ ‘Agricultural website and E-learning resources,’ and ‘Successful ICT projects- e-choupal, e-arik, MSSRF-VRCs’ were imparted by the resource persons.
A field visit to Kukidolong was also organised where the trainees and resource persons have interacted with progressive poultry farm teacher and members of Unity SHG.
In the valedictory programme, Dr. AK Bhattacharya has congratulated the trainees on completion of the training with enthusiasm.
SAMETI director, Dr. Amenla, has encouraged the trainees to access the information online and transfer the knowledge to the farming community in order to achieve food sufficiency. She has also highlighted on two mobile apps namely ‘Naga farm doctor’ and ‘Nagaland local plant’ which were recently launched by the state agriculture department.
The function concluded with the distribution of certificates to the trainees.
