SAMETI holds a three-day training programme on the management of farm machinery for ATMA functionaries in Medziphema.

DIMAPUR — The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a three-day training programme for the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) functionaries on the practical use and management of farm machinery and custom hiring services from May 13 to the 15th.
In his keynote address, Bodevi Shuya, Director of SAMETI and Principal of the Integrated Extension Training Centre (IETC), underlined the importance of the proper use and management of farm machinery.
According to an update, he highlighted the need to promote modern agricultural technologies and strengthen custom hiring centres so that small and marginal farmers can access farm machinery at an affordable cost.

The resource person for the training was Dr. Arbind Kumar Verma, Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering at Nagaland University, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema. He covered topics such as farm mechanisation for hill agriculture and internal combustion engines.
Practical sessions on demonstration and familiarisation with tillage, sowing, and intercultural equipment were conducted at the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Nagaland University, SAS, Medziphema.
Pikato V Jimo, Joint Director of the Department of Agriculture, highlighted farm mechanisation and custom hiring services under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM).
A practical demonstration of the safe use and management of farm machinery like tractors, power tillers, and brush cutters was conducted by Shikaho and Tiamongba Longkumer from the Department of Agriculture, Central Store, Dimapur.
A hands-on demonstration of a banana fibre extraction machine was conducted at Science and Technology Interventions in the North East Region (STINER), Nagaland University, SAS, Medziphema, by Mhasivikho Khutso, MTS, STINER-Technology Facilitation Centre.
Altogether, 30 officials from the Department of Agriculture and ATMA functionaries attended the training programme.
