- DIMAPUR — As part
of its ongoing efforts to strengthen inclusive education (IE) practices across
the state, the Samagra Shiksha Nagaland (SSN) organised a comprehensive
in-service training programme for IE resource persons and coordinators along
with focused sessions on the development of teaching-learning materials (TLM)
and exhibition showcasing innovative educational tools at Morung Hall of the
Directorate of School Education in Kohima.
- The training was focused on capacitating the resource
persons and coordinators in inclusive pedagogical approaches, to equip
participants with knowledge and skills for developing individualised education
plans (IEPs), to provide exposure to various therapeutic interventions that
support children with special needs, to promote the use and creation of
contextually relevant and child-friendly TLM and to foster innovation through a
competitive exhibition of self-developed TLM.

- An update from SSN stated that Kopele Tepa, founder and
proprietor of Bumblebee Inclusive School, took sessions on the development and
implementation of individualized education plans (IEP) and strategies for
creating and managing an inclusive classroom environment that addresses the
diverse needs of all learners.
- It stated that Rukuse Sakhrie conducted asession on music
therapy, emphasising its role in enhancing cognitive, emotional and social
development among children with special needs.

- Besides, practical demonstrations and hands-on training were
conducted on speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and support
strategies for children with visual impairment. The sessions were facilitated
by trained specialists among the resource persons and coordinators, allowing
participants to gain practical insights and engage in cross disability
learning.
- At the teaching-learning material exhibition, resource
persons and coordinators showcased a variety of creative and inclusive
educational aids developed during the training. The materials were designed to
be affordable, easy to use and effective in meeting the unique needs of
children with disabilities.
- Report stated that the commissioner and secretary of School
Education and SCERT, state mission director of Samagra Shiksha and principal
director of School Education also visited the TLM exhibition and interacted
with the resource persons and coordinators. The officials have commented them
on their efforts in developing innovative TLM and encouraged them to continue
working towards providing their services to ensure that no child is left
behind.
- Winners of the exhibition were recognised for their
innovation and practical approach. Ngaugongbe of EBRC Athibung, Nungshisenla
Ozukum of EBRC Zunheboto and Zumongi Kikon of EBRC Peren were declared winners
of the exhibition.
- It mentioned that the training and exhibition served as a
platform for professional development, peer learning and innovation in
inclusive education. It stated that by empowering IE resource persons and
coordinators with hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge, the programme
contributed significantly to the vision of ‘Education for all’ under Samagra
Shiksha.
- It also reaffirmed the importance of TLM as powerful tools
in addressing diverse learning needs and ensuring effective classroom inclusion
across schools in Nagaland, the report added.
