Aamir Khan called Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan being bigger stars than him at the poster launch of Dangal on Monday (July 4). The actor even went ahead and said he was a nobody and likened himself to a ‘waiter’, a remark that he immediately took back saying he didn’t mean any disrespect towards waiters.
Aamir admitted that he wanted to encash on the huge buzz generated by Salman’s Sultan for his own film. “I hope the millions of people who will come to watch Sultan will also see our poster and know there is a film called Dangal coming too.”
When asked if he was implying Salman was a bigger star than him, Aamir answered in positive. “Salman has always been a bigger star than me. What’s new in that? I have always considered Salman a bigger star. I have always considered Shah Rukh a bigger star. I consider Amitabh Bachchan a bigger star. There are a host of stars who I feel are very very big in India. There is Hrithik (Roshan), Ajay Devgn, Ranbir (Kapoor), Ranveer (Singh). So many actors are hugely popular. It’s very difficult to compare who is ahead and who is behind.”Salman Khan’s rape comment was unfortunate and insensitive: Aamir Khan
Salman Khan might command a good box office narrative, but his own dialogues are downright embarrassing and even borderline insulting. Bollywood usually graciously laughs it off or brushes it under the carpet. But in the latest instance, fellow actor Aamir Khan has criticised Salman for his “raped woman” comment, albeit mildly.
While speaking at the Mumbai launch of the poster of his next movie Dangal, ANI quoted Aamir as saying, “I wasn’t present when he made the comment. I feel going purely by the media reports that I have been reading which quotes him as saying it, I feel what he said was rather unfortunate and insensitive.”
When asked if he had spoken to Salman over the issue, Aamir said, “Who am I to give advice?”
The remark sparked a furious debate and led to the Maharashtra State Commission for Women summoning the actor for a hearing.
In the meantime, actors such as Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut apologised “on behalf of the industry”.
After even his father Salim Khan publicly apologised, Salman’s reaction was to simply say, “Knowing me, the shorter I keep it the better it is,” on the sidelines of the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) awards that recently concluded in Madrid.
