DIMAPUR — Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE) on Friday marked a significant milestone in its academic journey with a grand graduation ceremony held at Paul Bernick auditorium.

An update from the college stated that the programme began with an invocation prayer said by Fr. Dr. Elow Samuel, who sought divine blessings for the ceremony and the bright futures of the graduates, followed with singing of the national anthem.

In his welcome address, the college’s principal, Rev. Dr. Fr. Paul Punii, congratulated the graduates and conveyed best wishes. It stated that the head of departments read out the names of the graduates and conferred medals as a symbol of their hard work and perseverance.

The highlight of the ceremony was an inspiring speech by Chunsen Matey, top scorer in History at NU, who shared her journey and expressed gratitude to her parents, faculty members and friends. It stated that her motto, “In all that you do, do it well,” resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring graduates to pursue excellence. She further thanked the college for shaping her into the person she is today.

Addressing the gathering, the guest of honour, Prof. Dr. Zavise Rume, advised the students to ‘Smile always,’ emphasising that a smile is a reflection of happiness and inner peace. Congratulating the graduates on reaching the significant milestone, he challenged them to be not just literate but skilful—highlighting that in today’s world, true literacy encompasses skills and practical knowledge.

He asserted that ‘Teachers are the heart of learning,’ emphasising the importance of compassion and empathy in education. He added that without those qualities, education risks losing its true purpose.

In conclusion, he urged the graduates to face life’s challenges with courage and resilience.

Report stated that the guest of honour released the college magazine, a compilation celebrating the college’s achievements and talents.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Sr. Mercy, the college’s vice principal, encouraged the graduates to move forward with courage, trust in divine guidance and let their light shine brightly in the world.

About 70 graduates participated in the ceremony.
