Security personnel on leave not to wear uniforms

The Tuensang district administration on Monday issued an order announcing a complete ban on the sale and use of “camouflaged, khaki or any color patterned clothing identified with paramilitary of law enforcing agencies.” In a press release, the Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Alem Jongshi stated that the ban has been imposed in the knowledge that security forces will carry out “extensive operations all over Nagaland” following the decision of the NSCN-K to sever ceasefire agreement with New Delhi. Though the press statement did not make any pointed reference, it would not be an exaggeration to say that this decision has been prompted, to a large extent, by the killing of eight Assam Rifles soldiers by NSCN-K members in neighboring Mon on Sunday last.
“This notice is issued in the interest of the general safety of the public and to prevent any cases of mistaken identity or other untoward incident,” the order stated. He has urged the “responsible citizens” for strict compliance.
“Additionally, security forces and armed (Army) personnel are directed not to wear their uniforms, either in full or partly, while on leave,” the order read.
