Sainik School, Punglwa football c’ship concludes

Dimapur, May 5 (EMN): Sainik School, Punglwa annual inter-house football championship 2017-18 concluded on May 2 with Patkai House lifting the trophy in junior category. Gp Captain Sanjay Gaekwad, Principal, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Administrative Officer Lt Col M Kiran Meitei gave away the medals, certificates and the trophy to the winners. Melak House finished second in the junior category. Cadet Tania Raji of Melak House was adjudged the best player of the championship. In a well fought final, both the teams ended at a tie score of 1-1. Cadet Goi Nalo of Patkai House and cadet Pema of Melak scored the solitary goal for the two houses. The match went on to penalty shootout for the tie-breaker in which Patkai house proved their superiority scoring 4 goals against Melak House and ended with a score of 4-2. The Football championship was played under two categories, junior and sub-junior. The sub-junior category was played in the first week of April while the junior category started on April 27 and ended on the May 2. In each category, six houses vying for the trophy gave in their best to lift the trophy. In the sub-junior category Japfu House finished at the top while Patkai House was placed second. However, in aggregate Patkai House with 9 points topped the list and lifted the overall inter house football trophy.
