A memorial for Kargil war hero Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse was unveiled at the Sainik School of Punglwa in Peren district.[/caption]
Dimapur, July 15 (EMN): A memorial for Kargil war hero Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse was unveiled at the Sainik School of Punglwa in Peren district at a ceremony conducted by the Assam Rifles. The programme was conducted on July 15, updates from the IPR stated.
The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), gave updates on Monday about the programme.
According to the IPR, Kenguruse was commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army on the 12th of December 1998 in the Rajputana Rifles. He lost his life in the service of the country during the Kargil War.
“His indomitable courage and valour led the Battalion to achieve one of the most daunting missions assigned to it.
He was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, the second highest award in the face of enemy for this act of gallantry,” the IPR stated.
The memorial was unveiled by his parents Neiselie and Dinuo who were the chief guests of the event. Officials from the military, district police, and civil administration officials, and students of Sainik School attended the ceremony, the updates stated.
Wreaths were placed at the memorial by the guests. The students at the event were urged to emulate the values displayed by Kenguruse in leadership, courage and service to the nation, the updates stated.
A press release from a group called the ‘Ahthibung Region Club’ at Ahthibung, also gave additional inputs about the programme.
“The Ahthibung Region Club also joined this Nobel day and extended their gratitude towards son of soil by arranging a cake ceremony for the parents and family of decorated soldier. On this occasion mother of Capt Kenguruse got emotional and shared her feelings - "Today, he would have been 45 year old but I think he is still alive in our hearts and mind."
An officer of the Jalukie battalion recollected war diary extracts and mentioned that Kenguruse was popular amongst his men and known as “Nimbu shab” by them.
‘His men and nation was above his own life,’ the note added.
A ceremonial guard of honour marked the conclusion of the event, the updates added.
