Dimapur, May 12 (EMN): The Sainik School of Punglwa (SSP) has celebrated its 11th foundation day on May 12 with KT Sukhalu, MLA and alumnus of Sainik School Bhubaneswar, as alumnus guest.
The occasion was also attended by members of Old Boys Association (OBA) of Nagaland, dignitaries and parents.
On his arrival, the alumnus guest was presented with an impressive guard of honour by the senior cadets of the school. Later, he inaugurated the science and art exhibition of the school showcasing the ingenuity, aptitude and creativity of its cadets. Various working models in different categories prepared by the cadets were displayed in the exhibition.
The lighting of the “Lamp of Learning” and release of school half yearly magazine “VYWOM” (Voice of Young Warriors of Morung) was performed by the alumnus guest marking beginning of the event.
The school’s principal, in his annual report asserted that the school remains focussed on its objective “One aim, one goal NDA.” He said the school created history this year as cadet Sumwang Wangsa (Adm No 494) successfully cleared his UPSC 140 NDA/102 NA Exam, SSB (Services Selection Board) and was placed in the all India merit list. He will soon join the prestigious National Defence Academy. He will be the first cadet to join NDA in the history of the school since its first batch passed out in year 2013. The vibrant cadets of the school staged a cultural potpourri such as mime depicting voluntary organ donation for a noble cause, cultural dance of Nagaland and Madhya Pradesh on the theme of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India), group songs, western dance and special fusion dance by the tiny tots of Budding Blooms Foundation School, a school which looks after the educational requirement for the children of staff and nearby villages.
KT Sukhalu gave away the Best Academic (individual) Award to cadet Ngacho Heche, Best Sportsman of the Year to cadet Mhademo Tsanglao, Best OLQ (Officer Like Quality) Award to cadet Sendemo Tsanglao, Best Cadet to cadet Sumwang Wangsa, who successfully cleared the 140 NDA/102 NA course conducted by UPSC, Best Academic Trophy and the Cock House Trophy (Best house in overall) for the academic year 2017-2018 to Patkai House.
Sukhalu has expressed willingness to extend support towards infrastructure development and other required for the progress of the school.
Stating that the focus of the state’s chief minister was development of youth, he requested the school to spread more awareness about the Sainik School Punglwa as desired by the chief minister so that people from interior villages of Nagaland could be benefited from the school especially the Eastern Nagaland. He encouraged the cadets to remain focus and join the armed forces.
