Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir urges the Centre to upgrade College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, with key infrastructure and facilities.
DIMAPUR — Nagaland Lok Sabha Member of Parliament S Supongmeren Jamir on Tuesday urged the Union government to strengthen infrastructure and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry at Jalukie in the Peren district, saying the upgrades would enhance veterinary education, animal healthcare and livestock development in the region.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Parliament, Jamir appealed to the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to sanction key infrastructure projects for the college, a constituent institution of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
Among the proposals, the MP sought the construction of a Veterinary Clinical Complex, the upgradation of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostic (VLD) facilities for faster and more accurate diagnosis of animal diseases, and the introduction of veterinary telemedicine and mobile animal health services to improve outreach in rural areas.
Jamir said the proposed interventions would significantly improve the quality of veterinary education, strengthen animal healthcare services and build capacity in the livestock sector in line with national development priorities.
He noted that the college attracts students from different parts of the country and said the proposed infrastructure upgrades would benefit both students and faculty while helping the institution emerge as one of India's leading veterinary colleges.
Emphasising the importance of investment in veterinary education, Jamir urged the Centre to accord priority to the proposals, stating that strengthening the institution would contribute to improved livestock productivity, food security and employment generation in the rural economy.
