Dimapur, Sept. 1 (EMN): Rongmei Youth Club (RYC), Dimapur, commemorated the 88th martyr’s day of Haipou Jadonang, who was hanged to death on August 29, 1931, by the British colonial ruler.
The martyr’s day programme began with a two minutes silent prayer to pay homage the freedom fighter, stated RYC president Makuran Dangmei, who also chaired the programme and delivered the welcome address.
A folksong on the life of Haipou Jadonang was presented by Meisonglung Pamei, chairman of Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland), while Thaban Rongmei, president RCD and resource person, spoke on the brief history of Haipou Jadonang. While recounting the leadership of Jadonang, he asked the gathering to be a good follower rather than being a mere spectator.
“If we have to give tribute to a great leader, we have to work for unity and follow the legacy left behind by the great leader, Thaban asserted.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Marangdunlu Kamei, RYC treasurer.
