KOHIMA, SEPTember 26 : Nagaland blessed with plethora of flora and fauna, beautiful topography and the varied unique culture and tradition of each tribe, rural tourism - ‘untapped sector’ - is seen as a huge potential for economic uplift of the people and also for generating employment as well.
This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism, C Apok Jamir at a briefing during the final selection of the logo competition held at the conference hall of Directorate of Tourism today.
Terming rural tourism as the ‘tourism of the future’, Apok said this sector will provide opportunity and open doors to the rest of the world to see and experience the vibrancy and beauty of Nagaland.
The North East region is blessed with natural beauty, he stated while adding with the simplicity and honesty of the people, its authentic and untouched tradition has a lot to offer to the world. “With so much scope and potential, one can exploit the natural gifts for sustainable livelihood,” he stressed.
The Parliamentary Secretary also underlined the need to create awareness among the people on the viable prospect of tourism towards economic uplift.
With Hornbill Festival becoming an international event, he said, Nagaland has gained a lot of respect. The Tourism Department, he said, is trying its best to promote, develop, enhance and project Nagaland as a tourist centric destination through its various programmes and projects.
At the same time, he also asserted that the involvement of every individual and all tribes is essential to promote the State as the ‘best tourist destination’ in the world. He asserted that his department will continue to strive to promote and develop tourism in the untapped and remote region of the State while also creating awareness on the vast tourism opportunities available in the tourism sector.
Meanwhile, as per the announcement made by the Department of Tourism for an open competition of insignia/logo that best encapsulates Nagaland Tourism, Additional Director (HoD) Tourism KT Thomas said it has received participation from 96 enthusiastic competitors.
He informed that the result will be declared tomorrow coinciding with the World Tourism Day to be celebrated on September 27 on the theme ‘Tourism for all’ at its conference hall. The programme will be graced by MLA & Advisor to Chief Minister Merentoshi R Jamir as the chief guest.
A cash award of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the winner while ten consolation prizes with cash prize of Rs 10,000 each will also be awarded.
