- MOKOKCHUNG — The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM)
has raised serious concerns over the absence of the Regional Transport Officer
(RTO), Mokokchung, leading to significant public inconvenience.
- In an urgent appeal, AKM called for immediate intervention
from higher authorities to address the issue.
- According to the AKM, the officer concerned has repeatedly
been unavailable during official hours, disrupting essential services such as
license applications, vehicle registrations, and other transport-related
matters.
- Several citizens, including AKM officials, have visited the
RTO office multiple times only to find the officer absent, forcing them to make
repeated trips and endure unnecessary delays. This situation has particularly
affected residents from rural areas who travel long distances to avail
themselves of these services, the student body said.
- It went on to state that the lack of accountability and
responsiveness has not only inconvenienced the public but also hampered the
efficiency of the Transport department.
- In response to mounting frustrations, AKM said that it had brought
the matter to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung in 2024.
- “However, despite this escalation, the officer in question
has yet to demonstrate any commitment to regular attendance,” the AKM said.
- The student body urged the relevant authorities to take
immediate action to ensure the RTO’s presence at his designated post.
- The AKM further called for the implementation of a
monitoring mechanism to uphold accountability and ensure the smooth functioning
of the office.
