DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 16: Mokokchung commemorated Right to Information (RTI) Week by organising a programme in the conference hall of ADC (Planning) on October 15 on the theme “RTI and role of NGOs and CSOs” with the participation of chairmen from all the 18 wards in Mokokchung and representatives from Ao Senden, Watsu and AKM.
SDO (C) Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal, in his keynote address, said RTI is a strong weapon for all the people of the nation to question so that the answer can throw light into the matter. He said RTI is a landmark achievement as it has helped advance good governance and strengthen democracy in India.
He exhorted the participants, who constituted stakeholders in towns and the community, to update themselves and disseminate the knowledge on RTI to the lower section of the people especially to those in the villages so that their rights are protected.
The programme was chaired by Assistant Commissioner, Mekola Chaitanya Prasad, while power point presentation on RTI Act was made by EAC Mokokchung, R Daniel Angami, and EAC Chuchuyimlang, Meyazungba Jamir.
In Zunheboto, Right to Information (RTI) Week programe was held in the DC’s conference hall, Zunheboto, on October 15 with Obed Achumi, APO, DRDA, RTI-TOT Zunheboto, as resource person.
Speaking on the significance of RTI Act, the speaker said information and documents pertaining to various departments have improved with the enforcement of RTI Act. Speaking on the role of Civil Society Organisations (CSO), Obed said they can take up education and awareness programmes on RTI, adding they can also promote good governance and social equity by accessing information.
The speaker also spoke on the role and responsibility of PIOs and APIOs.
EAC, Kemciyile, who chaired the programme, asked the gathering to make use of RTI but cautioned them against its misused for selfish motives. She said RTI is a tool to bring about transparency and accountability and should be used efficiently.
GBs, village council chairmen, VDB secretaries and public leaders along with EAC Probationer Sakuchingmak and Wiridin Zeliang attended the function.
Mon commemorated RTI Week on October 14 in the DC’s conference hall, Mon, which was chaired by Relise Sangtam, EAC Mon, along with Rohbi Sangtam, EAC (probationer), and Tumben P Tsanglao, EAC (probationer) as resource persons.
Rohbi Sangtam made a power point presentation on Right to Information and also gave an overview of the act passed by Indian Parliament on June 5, 2005. He explained in detail about RTI and its power to the NGOs and CSO leaders. Tumben P Tsanglao also made power point presentation on ‘Appeal process of RTI’ and obligation of public authorities and the role of NGOs and CSO leaders. Representatives from KU, KNSK, KSU and CSO leaders attended the programme.
