Even as the state government has incurred a loss of over Rs 11 crore for Hornbill Festival during the last four years, an RTI reply from tourism department has revealed that the financial statements for two more years are yet to be made.
According to the details revealed in an RTI query filed by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Public Grievances Department (PGD), the department of tourism spent Rs. 11.95 crores during 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2014 in the festival and earned only Rs. 7.01 lakhs as revenue resulting a public exchequers loss of Rs. 11 crore, 87 lakh and 99 thousand. The PGD, NPCC in a press statement said that it was yet to receive the documents pertaining to the years 2013 and 2015 from the department. “Further, the documents received from the tourism department contain no APR’s and no entry fee, which is also considered as government revenue, is shown for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012.”
“For the year 2014, the total number of tourist visitors both domestic and international is 1,72,013 and revenue collected from entry tickets as per treasury challan is Rs. 3,14,916, which means only Rs. 1.83 paise per head only is collected, the statement added.
