Dimapur, March 4 (EMN): The Nagaland Information Commission (NIC) conducted a one-day awareness programme on Right t- Information (RTI) Act 2005 with the First Appellate Authorities (FAAs), Public Information Officers (PIOs), Assistant PIOs, village councils, town committee, women groups, civil society organisations, and RTI activists at Tiyi hall, Wokha town on March 4.
Chief Information Commissioner of Nagaland Chanbemo Lotha enlightened the gathering by highlighting the RTI Act, its objectives and the constitution using point presentation, informed an update from Zubenthung, IA Wokha. He stated that “RTI is a tool to create a practical regime of Right to Information for citizens to promote transparency and accountability of public authorities.”
Lotha also spoke on what and what not can be asked; information that cannot be given; roles responsibilities of PIOs and APIOs; uniqueness and specialty of the RTI Act; action to be taken by PIO on application filed by citizens; role of State Information Commission; penalties; and other important topics.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS also spoke during the event.
