DIMAPUR — The
Rising Peoples Party (RPP) has cautioned against unauthorised and improper use
of its name in filing Right to Information (RTI) applications.
“While the party remains steadfast in its support of
transparency, accountability and the principles enshrined in the RTI Act, any
fraudulent invocation of its name for such filings will be met with unequivocal
legal action,” the party warned.
The party has disavowed any affiliation with RTI
applications submitted under its name without explicit, prior authorisation
stating that such actions constituted misrepresentation. It stated that the
party reserved the right to initiate appropriate legal proceedings, including
the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) under applicable laws, against
those found responsible for this misappropriation.
In order to mitigate potential misuse and safeguard the
integrity of the party’s name, it has formally requested all government
departments, public institutions and relevant authorities to undertake due
diligence in verifying the authenticity of any RTI applications that bore the
party’s name. It stated that such verification could be efficiently conducted
through direct communication with the party via phone or email, prior to
processing any requests.
“The misuse of the RTI tool may not only undermines the
party’s reputation but also the transparency framework that is vital to good
governance. This precaution is essential to maintain the sanctity of the RTI
mechanism and prevent its abuse,” RPP added.
The party further affirmed its commitment to the values and
principles enshrined in the RTI Act and upholding the integrity of the
essential democratic tool.
