The Railway Protection Force of Northeast Frontier Railway reported arrests, rescues and major seizures in December to enhance passenger safety across the zone.

DIMAPUR — The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway recorded a month of intensified enforcement and humanitarian interventions in December 2025, reporting arrests, rescues and seizures aimed at strengthening passenger safety and security across the zone.
According to an official release issued on Wednesday, RPF personnel apprehended 17 persons in theft-related cases and recovered 17 stolen mobile phones valued at about INR 2.22 lakh, which were handed over to the Government Railway Police for further action.
During the month, RPF staff also prevented a potential accident at Guwahati Railway Station by saving a woman passenger who slipped while boarding Train No. 13125 (UP). In addition, humanitarian assistance remained a key focus, with 36 minor boys and girls and three women rescued and handed over to Childline, concerned NGOs and the GRP for care and rehabilitation. RPF personnel also assisted two pregnant women during childbirth at New Jalpaiguri and Rangiya stations.

Enforcement measures included the arrest of five persons for stone pelting on running trains. Under Swachhata drives, 1,722 offenders were prosecuted for littering, with fines amounting to about INR 2.29 lakh. Overall, 2,669 cases were registered under the Railways Act during December, leading to the arrest and prosecution of 2,632 offenders and the realisation of fines totalling approximately INR 3.36 lakh.
As part of its drive against organised crime, the RPF arrested five touts and seized 13 railway tickets. In anti-narcotics operations, 32 cases were detected with the recovery of ganja, heroin, brown sugar and cough syrup valued at about INR 3.16 crore, and 13 persons were arrested. Separately, 39 cases of illicit liquor smuggling were detected, resulting in the seizure of 2,960 bottles worth around INR 2.98 lakh.
Passenger facilitation measures were also undertaken, with RPF assisting the Commercial Department in apprehending 325 ticketless travellers and realising fines of INR 4.85 lakh. The force prosecuted 293 persons for smoking violations and recovered 118 left-behind luggage items valued at approximately INR 26.80 lakh, which were returned to passengers.
In support of safe rail operations, the RPF assisted the Engineering Department in removing 115 encroachments from various locations during the month.
The railway authorities said the figures reflected the RPF’s continued focus on passenger welfare, law enforcement and maintaining a safer and cleaner railway environment across the Northeast Frontier Railway zone.
