DIMAPUR — The Railway Protection Force (RPF)
of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) apprehended 18 Bangladeshi nationals
and one agent at Agartala railway station during various drives conducted in
December 2024.
Additionally, RPF rescued 90 minors and two women from
different stations over NF Railway during the month. The rescued minors were
handed over to the concerned authorities.
An update from NFR chief PRO, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma,
stated that the RPF and GRP teams of Agartala and the SIB/Badarpur team
apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals during a joint checking at Agratala
railway station on December 22. It stated that the three illegal migrants were
handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action.
In another incident on December 19, the RPF/SIB team of Guwahati
and the RPF team of Kamakhya rescued three runaway minors from Kamakhya railway
station during regular checks at Kamakhya railway station. Later, after
ascertaining the address of the minors, they were handed over to Childline,
Guwahati, for safe custody.
Similarly, in an incident on December 29, the RPF team of
Rangapara North rescued three runaway minors while conducting regular checks.
The rescued minors were handed over to Childline Tezpur for safe custody.
It mentioned that RPF of NF Railway rescued 906 minor
children and 61 women with the arrest of nine human traffickers during the
period from January to December 2024. The rescued children/women were handed
over to respective Childline/NGOs, parents and Government Railway Police.
Besides, RPF of NF Railway apprehended more than 300 illegal
migrants during the period.
It further stated that RPF staff deployed at stations and
trains are always vigilant and alert towards illegal infiltration from border
areas. RPF is also carrying out relentless fight against criminals in
protecting railway passengers and remaining vigilant for suspected persons
involved in human trafficking, as well as the movement of children in a
suspicious manner, travelling alone, without proper guardian, etc.
