Dimapur, June 22: Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontal Railway made remarkable achievements during May year by arresting numbers of criminals including thieves, drug pedlars and human traffickers.
In a press release made available to the media, Chief Public Relation Officer, Malegoan, PJ Sharma, said in the month of May RPF arrested 25 persons involved in theft cases and recovered stolen property worth Rs 74,300. He also said 49 persons were also apprehended for stopping the trains by pulling Alarm Chain and prosecuted under section 141 of the Railway Act.
According to the press release, five persons were also apprehended while conducting raid and search against touting activities from different place and booked under section 143 of Railways Act. A total of 322 hawkers were also apprehended for illegally doing hawking on train and were prosecuted under section 144 of the Railways Act. In the same month, 62 persons were apprehended by RPF for unauthorised entry into the ladies compartment who were prosecuted under section 162 of Railway Act. Two criminals, who used to drug innocent railway passenger and loot their belongings, were also apprehended and prosecuted.
Eight persons were arrested by RPF with recovery of contraband goods worth Rs 4, 61,000 during the month. It also added that 10 persons were also arrested for involving in theft cases from passenger luggage. Arrested persons were handed over to GRP for prosecution.
Besides, as many as 44 children were rescued from trains and stations and handed over to respective parents / guardians or local NGOs. Two person including one male and one female namely Moti Sil Niba Bhengra aged 35 years, wife of Kiliun Bhengra of Manajuli Pathar village under Dhekiajuli police station in Sonitpur district, and Kamal Mahanand, aged 30 years, son of Late Prabhudas Mahanand, of Dering Tea Estate under Biswanath Chariali police station un Sonitpur district, were arrested by RPF for being woman traffickers while trying to traffic minor girls by train in the month of May.
