DIMAPUR — In line with the nationwide employment initiative, the Rozgar Mela was held at Town Hall, Dimapur on Saturday. Organised by the Lumding Division of the Northeast Frontier Railway, the event was part of the Government of India’s flagship programme to boost employment across the country.
As part of the 16th edition of the Rozgar Mela, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 51,000 appointment letters via video conferencing to newly appointed candidates across government departments and organisations. The job fair was conducted simultaneously at 47 locations across India.
The appointments span various central ministries and departments, including the Ministries of Railways, Home Affairs, Health and Family Welfare, Labour and Employment, the Department of Posts, and the Department of Financial Services, among others.
In Dimapur, 107 appointment letters were handed over to the candidates. An additional 239 letters were dispatched via email the same day.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, addressed the gathering and congratulated the new appointees. He said it was his first time attending a Rozgar Mela in Dimapur and noted the presence of youth not just from Nagaland, but also from other Northeastern states and a substantial number from Assam.
Rijiju highlighted that government job appointments used to take 5–7 years due to procedural delays, but under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the system has changed. “Now, Rozgar Melas are held every 3–4 months, ensuring quicker recruitment and reducing delays. This marks a significant shift from the past,” he stated.
He maintained that no job is too small or insignificant. “A job is a job. When you hold a government position, you are serving the nation,” he said. Rijiju pointed out that whether someone works in the Army, banking, agriculture, or education, each is contributing to the building of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
He asserted that Prime Minister Modi’s vision is to make India a developed nation by 2047. “Only 23 years are left. Everyone, whether employed or unemployed, must contribute to this mission. It begins with a mindset change,” he added.

Rijiju acknowledged that the Northeast region was neglected for decades, but said this has changed under Modi's leadership. “Today, villages in Mon, Kiphire, and Peren have roads, mobile networks, electricity, and drinking water. Farmers benefit from PM-Kisan and Kisan Credit Card. Women receive maternity support. What seemed impossible 20 years ago is now a reality,” he said.
Rijiju expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the region’s transformation, adding that he has been a witness to these changes from within the Union Cabinet.
He said earlier, central ministers and officials were disconnected from the real issues of the Northeast. “But now, the Prime Minister personally understands and values the sentiments of the people here,” he said.
Rijiju stressed that peace is essential for the region’s growth. “No investor or tourist will come where there is unrest. We don’t have capital or advanced technology—those must come from outside. We must ensure a conducive environment,” he urged.
He added that the Northeast has already witnessed enough violence and must now move forward. “Prime Minister Modi envisions making the Northeast one of India’s most economically vibrant regions. But to achieve that, we must be ready to accept this opportunity.”
As India rises as a global economic power, Rijiju said, the Northeast must rise with it. “A prosperous Northeast will strengthen India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat (Developed India). States like Arunachal, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Sikkim must become key engines of national growth.”
