Dimapur, June 19 (EMN): Rotary Club of Dimapur under its women empowerment programme launched a Rotary Skill Academy to impart vocational training to women and girls.
The Academy was jointly inaugurated by the club’s senior members namely BL Khetawat, US Agarwalla, Dr. BL Agarwalla and Surinder Anand at Rotary Centre, Midland, on June 18 in the presence of club members and guests.
The project chairman Pradip Kumar Jain, in his welcome speech, spoke about the need for such skill academy in the community, while the club president Dr. Nitin Agarwalla spoke about the aims and objectives of the Academy to train women and enable them earn a decent livelihood after training.
At present the academy will impart tailoring to women without any charge. It hoped to introduce other skills training programme in the days to come.
Around 15 women have already enrolled for the basic tailoring course under the guidance of Gouri Roy.
Chandu Agarwalla and Lucy Akokla also spoke on the occasion and exhorted the trainees to make full use of facilities for skill development. The vote of thanks was delivered by Surinder Anand.
