Rotary Club looks to achieving what it says could be ‘hundred percent’ literacy. District Governor of the club, Chandu Agarwal has urged the Rotary clubs to support the “Rotary Foundation”, the ‘backbone of Rotary International’s for initiating mega projects across the world.’
On November 1, Agarwal conveyed the message during his maiden visit to Rotary Club of Mokokchung on Sunday evening. He was accompanied by RI District assistant District Governor Laila Gatpoh from Imphal and other Rotarians.
District Governor informed that rotary clubs have contributed more than 100 million US dollar for eradication of Polio worldwide. He also requested each Rotary member to contribute a minimum of 20 dollar which is less than rupees 4 per day toward the Rotary Foundation to initiate more mega project.Agarwal, also informed that Rotary have played a lead role in eradication of polio in India and for the four and a half years there is no polio case and India have declared Polio free country. After the successful eradication of Polio, the Rotary India has shift his target for eradication of illiteracy India by 2017, he said.
He also disclosed that Rotary India has formed India Literacy Mission with a vision to make India 100 percent literate and for that certain program have been initiating across the country. “We have the dedication , I am sure that we will able to achieved it, at least by 2020 but we will make India 100 percent literate,” he assured.
Agarwal, also disclosed that for this mission the R.I have certain programs and has given its commitment to the government of India to send one Lakh children back to schools. He also appreciated the clubs of the district 3249 for the sponsorship of 1000 out of the target 1500 and said the district is looking forward for more sponsorship to send children back to schools.
He disclosed that each child will cost rupees 2100/- to put them back to track, to attend their schools regularly in the state run institutions and will be taken care by the Government of India. He also requested the club to look into such project especially in the rural areas, so that deprived children can acquired better education.
District Governor also informed that from this year Rotary International have gone fully digitalize and clubs are expected to upload their plans, projects and progammes online at www.rotaryworli.org, where the 15 goals have been set. Achieving all the set goals by the clubs will automatically recognized for the prestigious RI presidential Award.
He also informed the Clubs to upload their month report in the district website and district award will be judge by the report they have uploaded. Nonetheless, he also disclosed that out of 79 clubs 73 clubs have conducted Blood donation camp on month June and have collected more than 1500 units of bloods during that single day.
Also, Asst. District Governor Laila Gatpoh also stressed on the e-learning project to be initiated in the government schools. She also asked the clubs to select two government schools in the rural areas and implement the project. Later on the program Balji Singh was inducted in the Rotary Club of Mokokchung by the District Governor.
