Dimapur, Oct.27 (EMN): The Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYO) stated that the memorial stone erected in commemoration of Indo-Kuki war centenary anniversary was to promote false propaganda.
“The stone, which represents the defence of ancestral land and freedom, should not be used to spread insidious political ideology,” said a statement from the organisation that was made available to the media on October 26.
In a statement, RNYO president Kanpatlung Pamei cited historical records indicating Kukis as 'immigrants and refugees' of Manipur. While substantiating his claim, Pamei stated that Kukis paid taxes as "they were living in Nagas' land.” He, therefore, stated that history must be read in the right perspective.
While recalling the Rongmei-Kuki war of 1917-19, he stated that RNYO would uphold the "declaration of RC, LC, ZC and INC and that of NPO and TNL asserting the rights of UNC in defending the land of the Nagas."
