Nagaland will begin Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls from August with voter verification across the state.

DIMAPUR — As the Election Commission of India (ECI) expands the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country, Nagaland is set to begin the exercise later this year with over 2,400 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) expected to conduct house-to-house verification of more than 13.5 lakh electors.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the ECI announced the schedule for Phase-III of SIR, under which Nagaland will undertake a comprehensive revision exercise from August to November this year.
The exercise will be conducted in 16 states and three Union territories in a phased manner as part of efforts to update and strengthen electoral rolls across the country.
In Nagaland, the qualifying date for the revision has been fixed as October 1, 2026. Preparatory work, including training and printing, will be carried out from August 5 to 14, while house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are scheduled from August 16 to September 14.

The draft electoral roll for the state will be published on September 20, followed by the period for filing claims and objections till October 20. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 22.
The commission stated that 2,432 BLOs and 2,623 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties will be involved in the exercise in Nagaland. The state currently has 13,56,858 electors as of May 12, 2026.
Nationwide, over 3.94 lakh BLOs will conduct house-to-house verification covering around 36.73 crore electors during Phase-III of the revision process, assisted by more than 3.42 lakh BLAs.
The commission described the SIR as a participative exercise involving electors, political parties and election officials, and urged political parties to appoint BLAs for every polling booth to ensure transparency and wider participation in the process.
Besides Nagaland, the Phase-III exercise will also cover several northeastern states, including Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Tripura.
