Dimapur, Oct 18 (EMN): Motor Vehicle Department has conducted a road safety awareness in Tuensang on October 18 at CKS hall, Tuensang, on the theme “Time for action” where L Jamithung Lotha, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, was the chief guest.
The programme was attended by the police and traffic personnel, tribal leaders from different tribes, Scouts & Guides, and drivers from within the town.
Delivering the keynote address, Arenbo Peter, Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector, had highlighted on the year-long road safety calendar being organised by the motor vehicle department. He apprised on the alarming increased cases with regard to road accidence occurring in the country.
He also deliberated on the commissioning of Nagaland State Road Safety Authority and its ramified network to educate and implement the road safety agendas to reduce the rate of road accidents. The factors contributing to accident are personal related such as drunken and reckless driving etc, he added. The awareness on usage of seat belt, helmets and avoiding using mobile phones while driving has became mandatory, he stated.
L Jamithung Lotha, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, exhorted all to follow the traffic related rules. He also stressed on the need for proper education on the usage of signals, dipper, and discipline driving in order to minimise the road related accidents. He also asked the law enforcing agencies to strictly check on the violators in line with the theme “Time for action” in order control the menace.
Feedback was also given by members from the Taxi Drivers’ Union and Drivers’ Union Tuensang.
