Longchem, July 14 (EMN): Construction of a temporary wooden bridge connecting Longchem EAC Circle to Assam began today. The concrete bridge- the main trading road for the villages under Longchem EAC Circle- was swept away on June 2.
Longchem EAC circle, some 97 Km away from Mokokchung headquarters bordering Assam state, covers more than 12 villages. Longchem EAC circle has witnessed major blockade for more than two weeks following incidents of landslides in many pockets triggered by to incessant rain.
More than 150 volunteers from Longchem and Nokpu villages have been mobilised to repair road and provide assistance to EE PWD, Mangkolemba, and SDRF (Home Guard & Civil Defense), who are clearing the mudslides and logs to lay the foundation for the temporary bridge today. The logs for the bridge were donated by Nokpu village council.
EAC Longchem, Trongdiba Tongpi, stated that it might take three or four days to complete the bridge. Meanwhile, he also expressed gratitude to the State Disaster Management Authority, District Disaster Management Authority Mokokchung Chairman and DC Mokokchung; Moangkolemba ADC Imtiwapang; EE PWD Mangkolemba; and SDRF (Home Guard & Civil Defense, District) for their support and the local MLA Dr. Benjongliba Aier for his financial assistance in this project.
