Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): In upholding solidarity with the Naga people and civil societies along with the NSCN (IM) and NNPG for an inclusive and honourable solution to the protracted Naga political issue, the Rengma Naga of Assam under the nomenclature of the Rengma Naga Peoples’ Council (RNPC) has appealed to all the negotiating parties to use God-given wisdom in inking the final solution.
A press release from RNPC stated that like any other Naga, irrespective of the artificial boundaries, the Rengma Nagas also cherish the common aspirations to achieve the same through peace and with honour.
It thanked the GoI, NSCN (IM), NNPG, Naga CSOs and individuals who are pursuing the common goal of a peaceful, lasting and mutually acceptable solution.
“The Naga movement for self-determination is one of the longest struggles for freedom and which also resulted in the longest ceasefire between India and Nagas and we humbly pray that the same peace is continued forever through a final solution,” the statement read.
While appreciating the GoI for its understanding and accepting Naga’s unique history and right to self-determination, RNPC noted that without the flag and constitution, any solution within the Indian constitution would not be considered acceptable, honourable or final. It, therefore, urged the GOI to seriously take the demand for flag and constitution if it really wants to end the ‘almost-a-century-old’ conflict with the Nagas.
It added that past history such as the infamous “Shillong Accord,” which has resulted in the current situation, must be avoided and not repeated.
Meanwhile, it expressed anticipation for a peaceful and mutually accepted solution.
