Dimapur, Dec. 30: Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio called upon the Nagas to unite and pursue the people’s cherished aspiration collectively for the betterment of our society and cautioned that ‘until and unless we are united, we ourselves become a stumbling block.’
Addressing the inaugural session of the Mao Students’ Union (MSU) on the occasion of its 83rd anniversary cum conference on December 29 at Okhro Ikhro in Song Song village on the theme ‘The Need for quintessential paradigm shift,’ Rio urged to unite and pursue the goal collectively for the betterment of our society.
“We are fighting for our identity, for our history and for our culture,” Rio said adding “Until and unless we are united, we ourselves become a stumbling block, we are the problem.”
On the protracted Naga political issue, Rio said Government of India had recognised the Naga issue as a political issue based on our unique history which, he maintained, was an achievement.
Congratulating MSU for organising the event, Rio reminded the gathering to remember the pioneers whose vision had led MSU thus far and at the same time urged upon them to carry forward the legacy of the past leaders.
The chief guest remarked that the area was naturally blessed- a land of plenty – and urged the local populace to capitalise for economic growth and development.
Rio also highlighted on the importance of education in his address.
ADC Senapati district and guest of honour, ML Markson said MSU was known to many as one of the most vibrant students’ organization and pressure group among the tribal communities especially in the district.
He remarked MSU had become “indomitable strength to take our movement to new heights as we remember those sacrifice and lost we recorded in its history of 83rd years of existence.”
Ranging from academic performance, physical, moral, intellectual and philosophical contributions, he said MSU stood as an important organisation to depend and seek support in times of needs.
The event was hosted by Song Song Youth & Students’ Organisation.
General secretary of Tenyimi Public Organisation (TPO) Vipopal Kintso was the special guest while member of Collective Leadership, Rev. A Puni was the chief host of the event.
