Dimapur, Jan. 9 (EMN): Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, has sent off the first batch of the Chief Minister’s Scholarship for Music 2021 beneficiaries to KM Music Conservatory (KMMC), Arumbakkan in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on January 7.
The first batch beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s Scholarship for Music 2021 namely Vikhietuonuo Rutsa, Binthu Newmai and Vitolu Zhimomi would undergo a three-month customised professional course in music, informed the project director of Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Dr. Hovithal Sothu on Sunday. Dr. AR Rahman, composer as well as Grammy winner and the Academy Award winning musician, is the founder and principal of KMMC, Chennai.
Dr. Sothu stated that the conservatory offers a wide range of part-time and full-time music courses on Hindustani and western classical and music technology. He mentioned that for the scholarship, an open advertisement, was notified offering all empanelled artistes to apply in which seven applicants qualified to sit for the interview. He added that the interview board consisting of two members from KMMC and two members from Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) recommended four artistes. However, he stated that one candidate could not avail the scholarship due to unavoidable circumstances.
Task Force for Music and Arts, while wishing all the very best to the candidates, thanked the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, for coming up with such a noble idea to help musicians grow to their full potential.
It mentioned that the scholarship per student was INR 4,00,000 plus their travel, accommodation and a monthly stipend of INR 10,000 each.
