Dimapur, Dec. 19: Observing that situation in Manipur is grave and desperate with communal riots, arson, looting and serious human rights abuse, Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his urgent intervention to save the situation. Rio also demanded a high-level investigation by an appropriate agency into the situation so that those shaming our great country and the spirit of democracy are brought to book and punished as per laws of the land.
In a letter to the Prime Minister on Monday, Rio stated that the Naga community has been specifically targeted while alleging obvious political motivation behind the well-planned attacks.
He said thousands of people, including students who are returning home for the festive season, have been impacted, and even women and children have not been spared. There is no semblance of law and order or presence of any law enforcing agencies to protect the innocents from the unlawful and anti-social elements, the letter said.
Therefore, he said, the urgent need of the hour is direct intervention of the Central Government to ensure prevalence of law and order and security of the innocent public.
Saying that the Central Government can no longer remain a silent spectator, Rio said the situation needs urgent attention in the greater interest of the country. “The people have placed their hope on your office to intervene and save the situation,” the letter to the Prime Minister stated.
