Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has paid rich tributes to Deikim Doungel, wife of Olympian late Dr. T. Ao, as the person behind the success of the Naga sports legend. Doungel passed away on Wednesday. Rio sent in a message of condolence on Wednesday.
“I am saddened to learn of the demise of Mrs. Deikim Doungel, wife of legendary Naga Olympian late Dr. T. Ao, who passed away today. Her demise is a sad and solemn moment for all of us as she was the wife of one of the most legendary Naga personalities in our modern history,” the chief minister said. “Late Mrs. Deikim was a quiet yet powerful source behind the success and achievements of her late husband.”
Rio spoke of Doungel as an exemplary wife and the foundation of the Olympian’s ‘support system.’ “She stands tall as an example of a strong woman and a person who had an equal role in the successful career of her late husband who donned many hats of a sportsperson, a doctor, a sports administrator and a sincere government servant. Naga society will forever remain indebted to her for the positive contributions and the sacrifices she made,” the chief minister said.
“In this hour of grief, my wife and family join me in expressing our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and we pray to Almighty God to let the departed soul rest in peace,” the message added.
