Kohima, Feb. 10: Nagas feel that they are denied of rights and that justice was not given to them, which is the root cause of many decades of conflict and unrest in Nagaland, said MP, Neiphiu Rio.
In this regard, he said when there is no justice there can be no world order.
Speaking at a programme this evening at Kohima, Rio said the insurgency problems and the political issues have resulted to the draconian AFSPA in the state.
He also asserted that the laws of barbarians ‘might is right’ is no longer applicable in the today’s context of a democratic society of educated and civilised where ‘majority is right’ is the law.
While stating that unfairness divided the people, Rio said fair play brings cooperation and support of the people. He maintained that people should be fair and just in all our dealings.
Rio queried ‘why do we feel that justice is denied to us?’ because, he said Nagas who are divided in four states in India (Manipur, Assam, Arunachal and also in Myanmar) wants integration of all Nagas.
He expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement which is going on for the last 20 years will come to conclusion soon. He also maintained that though ‘we always talk about peace, but mere slogan on peace will not bring peace.’
Rio also stated that Article 371 (A) is a special provision and has a special protection in the constitution of India for the people of Nagas in regard to Naga customary laws and practices, land resources etc. Therefore, he said is up to the Nagas to accept or reject it.
