DIMAPUR — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on Wednesday condemned the killing of church leaders in Manipur after an armed ambush reportedly left three dead and five injured.
According to DIPR, Rio described the incident as a "brutal" and "senseless" act of violence, stating that such attacks on innocent lives were unacceptable and had no place in any civilised society.
Expressing sorrow over the incident, the chief minister conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, the church community, and the people of Manipur. He also prayed for strength and comfort for those affected by the tragedy.
The NBCC, meanwhile, termed the incident a "heinous act" and an "attack on the faith community".

"We condemn this act of violence without reservation. The taking of human life is a violation of God’s law and an assault on the image of God in which every person is made," the council stated.
The church body said the killing of church leaders amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur was "unimaginable" and "an act of abhorrence to God and our Christian moral principle".
Calling for accountability, the NBCC urged the authorities to conduct a "thorough and impartial investigation", apprehend those responsible, and ensure justice through lawful means.
At the same time, the council appealed to the affected community not to retaliate. “We urge the grieving community not to respond with vengeance, but to trust justice to God and to the authorities He has appointed,” the statement read.
The NBCC also extended prayers and condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.
