Dimapur, Jan. 31: Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday attended the NDA coordination meeting before the start of the budget session. According to his publicity team, Rio highlighted to the gathered members about the ongoing blockade in Manipur launched by the UNC.
He questioned how the tripartite talks could be held when the UNC leader were still in police custody. He further apprised the NDA members that the government of Manipur had created 7 new districts without consulting the people, and not even the Autonomous Districts Councils.
Rio also spoke about the three "anti-tribal" bills that were passed in the Manipur Assembly in 2015 leading to mass protests from the tribals in the state resulting in the death of 9 tribal youths. The bodies of the deceased are still being kept, with their kith and kin refusing to take them.
He reiterated to the alliance partners that these issue need to be resolved before the elections in Manipur.
Rio also prevailed upon the gathering on the Indo-Myannmar international border fencing that is being currently done and urged the Prime Minister to talk to the Myanmar government to stop the fencing.
The meeting was attended by prime minister Narendra Modi, home minister Rajnath Singh, BJP chief Amit Shah and other alliance partners of the NDA.
It was also informed that Neiphiu Rio met the prime minister and the home minister again separately where these issues were highlighted again.
