Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): The Neiphiu Rio led Naga Peoples' Front party has on Tuesday informed that the process of reconciliation extended to its opponents is now a closed chapter as the other group made a 'mockery' of its reconciliation initiative.
The Press and Information Cell of the group stated that the resolution for reconciliation was adopted during its consultative meeting on Oct. 24 at Kohima and therefore "an olive branch for reconciliation was extended to our rival group of Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu".
"Our reconciliation hands were extended on goodwill and in the larger interest of the people who voted for us back to back to power with thumping majority for 3 consecutive terms," it stated.
The press release however stated that the 'splinter group' instead presumed it as a 'Trojan horse' and rejected the offer while the 'majority and ruling NPF party initiatives to reconcile' was scorned and miffed.
It corrected its rivals that the reconciliation offer was based on the principles of "ECI Directives, order dated 27.03.2015 and 17.10.2017".
As a political party, it takes serious note on any internal strife and it is the job of the party to work for the welfare of our people and that it is not the party's job to make a "mountain out of a molehill" or to be washing dirty linen in public.
It has no control over the decision of the Election Commission of India on the present NPF imbroglio but the final verdict will come soon, it stated.
"The ECI is not only a monumental institution but also a living institution that actively defends democratic values and the constitution. By totally rejecting our initiative to amend, NPF Central Office is but saddened that a great opportunity has been lost. We request upon the other group not to make a mockery of themselves in public even if they cannot understand what a constitutional process is, but wait for ECI to give its judgment," it further stated.
It is not because of any "fear " but because they were "strong" that they have tried all "channels" to extend their hand of friendship to their "friends and family members" who are in the "wrong side".
"It is quite unfortunate that, our rival group has made a mockery of our humble reconciliation initiatives and regrettably we hereby inform our party men and women, supporters, sympathizers that the reconciliation chapter is closed," it added.
