Imphal, Aug. 6 (EMN): In what could be termed as a historic event, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) authority in Imphal handed over appointment letters to 12 persons under its compassionate appointment scheme besides giving financial upgrade to 117 employees on Tuesday.
Director Dr. A Santa of RIMS, Deputy Director (Administration) Kaikam Doungel, Medical Superintendent Dr. Ch Arunkumar, Principal of RIMS Dental College Dr. P Praveen Reddy, and Chief Accounts Officer E Debendro attended the event. Head of departments of the RIMS, teaching and non teaching staff of the medical institute were also present during the occasion.
Sharing his sentiment in connection with the event, Santa said he was thrilled by accomplishment despite having a little apprehension following wrong information and subsequent tension.
Santa, who has helped in boosting the annual budget of the institute in the recent past, also expressed the need for a change in Manipur through transparency as the state needs a better and affordable good government hospital.
Currently, RIMS caters to patients from the region apart from producing MBBS graduates from not only Manipur but also other neighbouring states like Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Deputy Director Doungel and Superintendent Dr. Arunkumar also spoke on the occasion. In his deliberation, secretary of Non-teaching welfare association of the institute lauded the activities taken up by the RIMS authority.
He also urged the authority to fill up the present vacant posts of the institute, including grade IV, tailor, lower division clerk, and medical social worker at the earliest.
The move initiated by RIMS was appreciated by many. One of the individuals who received the appointment letter during the day’s function lauded the efforts of the RIMS authority considering their needs and requirements.
National Deworming Day-Manipur is all set to launch the second round of National Deworming Day on August 8, said state mission director of National Health Mission, Manipur Dr. S Manikanta on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at his office in Imphal, Manikanta said the second round of the programme will cover 9.25 lakh children across the state.
Children between 1-5 years will be administered the deworming (Albendazole) tablets at the Anagnwadi centres while those between 6-19 years will be administered at the schools.
Albendazole tablet is a safe drug for children and it will control anaemia besides improving nutritional uptake, subsequently improving children’s concentration, capacity to learn etc.
The major challenges in conducting such programmes by the health services authority in the state include lack of importance of administering the deworming tablets, lack of awareness of the safety of the tablet and absence of children in the coverage area particularly in the age group of 6-19 years, the State
Mission Director said.
However, the department is planning to collaborate with the concerned authorities for a successful coverage prior to the mopping exercise to be held on August 16, he added. The first round of the National Deworming Day was held in Manipur in February this year.
