Beleaguered former Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Director Prof Sinam Sekharjit on Thursday appeared before an Imphal court here for hearing in a dental chair purchase case.
The CBI recently submitted charge sheet against Prof Sekharjit and four others in the case. Sekharjit was sacked on graft charges and later the CBI lodged a case against him in connection with irregularities in the supply of dental chairs for Dental College of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The charge sheet was submitted under RC 6 (A) of 2014 under Section 120 (B), 420 (Cheating) and 428 and 471 of IPC.
The dental chairs, 38 in numbers, were bought for Rs 3.75 lakh each while the actual cost was Rs 1.5 lakh per piece. Sekharjit is accused of purchasing the chairs in conspiracy with the other four accused in 2013.
Among the five accused, one was not present in the court of District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West, Manoj Singh. The accused belonging to an outside firm sought more time to arrange the counsel. The court fixedMay 18 as the date for the next hearing.
The other four accused in the CBI-probed case are RIMS Dental College and Hospital Principal Dr Rajiv Ratna Singh from Uttar Pradesh, RIMS Chief Accounts Officer cum Financial Advisor Elangbam Debendro, Haobam Shanti and M/s Mukherjee Enterprises proprietor Subhendra Mukherjee from Kolkata.
