Dimapur, Oct. 9 (EMN): Additional chief secretary to the chief minister, DUDA, Tribal Affairs, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Lhoubeilatuo Kire has categorically pointed out that Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) was designed to ascertain the indigenous status of the people and to ensure that the rights and properties of the indigenous people are fully protected and to prepare a sustainable way of life for the younger generations.
Speaking at the 14th biennial general conference of the Pochury Gazetted Officers’ Forum on October 8 at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur, Kire made it clear that the RIIN exercise was not against any bonafide Indian citizen since their due rights would be fully protected.
Kire also expressed happiness to be in the midst of a community bound by a common thread and share the joy of being together. He urged the gathering to look into the past, introspect the present and to look towards the future with the motto “To serve with dignity.”
The special invitee also sought on the need to protect and preserve the fragile environment and suggested that people should avoid going after short term benefits. He has further encouraged practicing on long term sustainability.
Kire also called upon the stakeholders to play proactive roles in the issues facing the society at large. The speaker ended by exhorting that it is not in the numbers, but the quality in the limited numbers that would propel the forum to greater heights.
In his presidential address, Er. Chirhotho Rasutho, PGOF president, stated that the organisation started humbly with few visionary members numbering 23 in the year 1996 and has reached a considerable strength of 126 members as per the latest report. He also read out the Forum’s visions and objectives. He further called upon all the members to rededicate themselves to the motto “To serve with dignity”.
A release from the PGOF informed that the new office bearers for the tenure (2019-21) would be led by Rhovisie Nyuwi as president, Tarachu Pfithu as vice president, Er. Chura Katiry as general secretary, Khuza Jurry as joint secretary, Er. Jackson Ngouri as information and publicity secretary, Nguvisie Nyusou as finance secretary and Lisiitho Phoji as treasurer.
