Eastern Mirror: Being identified as one of the ‘MOST ROMANTIC NAGA ARTIST’ by some popular websites like Northeast live, Indian band hub, Indian Musicians, Etc. , how would you describe yourself as a musician?
Oren Mozhui: Thank you so much for the Question, I should say that I am a very hard working full time musician, I have been into music business for more than 24 years and I wish to stay a musician till I breathe my last breath.
Eastern Mirror: Do you think music can play an important role in bringing positive change in society? If so .. how and why?
Oren Mozhui: To say that any one type of music can influence an entire society is a big generalization.
As society becomes more modernized, people have moved away from tribal instruments and the simple methods of playing them.
Also, as technology becomes more advanced with digital and mobile audio solutions, individuals can listen to complex sound recordings in total isolation, any time and anywhere.
Today people can choose to listen to a wide array of styles or to focus on one genre depending on the musical qualities that appeal to them as individuals.
Media, such as radio, TV and movies can influence pop culture’s tastes in music.
Eastern Mirror: Being an experienced musician with 4 albums consisting of 62 love songs and two singles based on social causes, do you see or have experience any changes that have taken place in the music industry of Nagaland over the years?
Oren Mozhui: Well to be honest, Music industry of Nagaland is corrupted, Favouritism, hatred and jealousy are found among the musicians, I created a group by the name “ The Naga Musicians “
The Motives of this group is to unite all the Naga artists, Promote the upcoming and struggling artists,
Create more platforms for all the artists and Remove all the unfair means from the music industry.
So far we have been able to create some platforms for struggling musicians and I am very happy about it.
This team will bring more events for the betterment of all artists and bring all musicians under the same roof so that we can work together and uplift each other through music.
Eastern Mirror: How does it feel to be inked in the history of NorthEast music industry with your debut album declared as the first ballad album from Northeast India?
Oren Mozhui: It was a total surprise, Working on my debut album was like hell, I was struggling for three years just to make that album happen.
I remember Going to the clef ensemble studio Kohima for 2 years almost regularly.
My special thanks goes to Alfred Besu who produced my album and studio engineer John pfukrelo who suffered with me.
Thankfully my hard work did not go wasted but instead I was handsomely rewarded with the title of being the first guy from the Northeast India to release English Ballads album.
Eastern Mirror: What inspires you to compose such romantic songs? … Any individual or object behind your composition? (Mind sharing… If that’s not a secret?)
Oren Mozhui: There are some great love stories found in some of the novels, those books galvanized me to write Romantic songs and also I was dating a couple of beautiful ladies in the past. They affected me and heartened me to write some love songs.
Eastern Mirror: With an experience of working as a music teacher at a national level while serving as the brand ambassador of LORRIANE MUSIC ACCADEMY, Gurgaon, what do you think is the best weapon to prosper in ones career as a musician?
Oren Mozhui: Its not easy to become a successful musicians in Nagaland, only few people who can afford to spend money on songs recordings and music videos become prosperous, That’s the main reason why some Artists are becoming stars over night,
There are more than 2000 struggling artists who are searching for platforms and financial help to record their original songs, I request the M.T.F .N to give their priority to those kind of artists.
Note - Rich musicians win over the hard working musicians.
