Her journey to reality show India’s Got Talent has begun as an 11 member ‘Voice of Nagaland’ choir team and she hopes that with she’ll make Nagaland proud. In today’s ‘Rhythm of Love’ Manchai talks about her love and motivation for music.
EASTERN MIRROR: Tell us something about your musical background. When did you realize you wanted to do music?
MANCHAI PHOM: My father inspired me to sing. Since my childhood days music has always been my passion. My father is a self taught singer, songwriter as well as a composer. I first started performing at church and at schools and local functions. That’s how my musical journey started off.
EASTERN MIRROR: You have been part of numerous competitions. Which competition opened doors for you? Do you believe participating in competitions help musicians receive recognition?
MANCHAI PHOM: Naga Orpheus Hunt I would say opened up my door as an Artist. I had a good know-how with music and stage shows and till today I am very grateful with sir Moa who was our mentor for training me to be what I am today.
With my experience I can say that competitions do favor an Artist with recognition to some extent…..Yet I believe what really makes an artist to receive recognition is hard work and dedication.
EASTERN MIRROR: There are many talented artists in Nagaland who have created a niche. Who would you like to work with and why?
MANCHAI PHOM: I love and respect every Artist as everyone has created their own niche. But on a personal front, I would love to work with Nise Meruno. He is characteristically professional singer a proficient in classical music and I believe that the foundation for an artist is classical music.
EASTERN MIRROR: You have already made a mark in the music industry of the state. What are you working on presently?
MANCHAI PHOM: Everyday I’m encountering new experience so I must say I’m still growing and learning to be significant in the music field... Practices, shows and performance are happening all the way and I’m sure these will build me and take me far.
EASTERN MIRROR: Tell us about your journey to India’s Got Talent? What lessons have you learned auditioning for a national reality competition?
MANCHAI PHOM: It was the greatest experience for me. The lesson which I have learned and will always count is that no matter what hardship or struggle we face, we must have faith and move ahead because at the end hard work pays off indeed.
EASTERN MIRROR: Are you working on any new album or songs and what are your future plans for now on?
I have plans to bring out an album but right now am concentrating on song writing and shows.
