‘Manacle Free’ a four-member band from Meluri town calls themselves fortunate to be ‘birds of the same feather’ as they share similar tastes. The band comprises of four close childhood friends Gouro
(vocals & guitar), Dimu
(vocals & drums), Churho
(vocals & bass) and John (vocals & guitar) who do not remember for how long they have been playing together.
Their journey started with performing gigs in the backyard during free time, singing at local events and marriage parties. Though they would not brand themselves as a professional band and do not aspire to be one anytime soon, they are nonetheless no lesser than any professionals when it comes to music. Manacle Free believes that music helps one to be at ease with the inner self and with the outside world at the same time.
EASTERN MIRROR: What d
oes your band name signify and where did it come from?
Manacle Free: We believe music has the essence to liberate and set oneself free from the numerous self- created artificial maladies of the mind. ‘Manacle’ in other word means ‘shackle’. Hence, the name of the band Manacle free’ means breaking free from the confinement of vanities and differences.
EASTERN MIRROR: How do you describe your music to people new to you?
Manacle Free: We sing country, pop, blues and sometimes Gospel. So it is difficult to describe our music specifically for people new to us. But we want to tell them, whatever we create or write, we do it with profound sincerity. Most of our songs relates with the real situations or addresses the prevailing social sicknesses. Our songs are messages to people, which I hope they will get to listen very soon and be inspired.
EASTERN MIRROR: Do you write your own songs? What are the contributions that each of you make?
Manacle Free: Yes, we do write our own songs.
We believe that music is the centre of any band anywhere in the world. Each individual in the band plays an important role in constructing or producing good music. We have equal share of contributions and responsibilities.
EASTERN MIRROR: Your band is heavily influenced by classic country music with a bit of modern pop music, with blues and accapella genres of music. Why do you choose to play those kind of music?
Manacle Free: It’s not about choice, it’s about the influence. For example, if we choose other than the genres you have mentioned in the question, it would be like a Brazilian kid choosing to pursue cricket over football. I think a crab would always prefer to walk sideways.lol.
Manacle Free: We are a band of four childhood friends who grew up from the same town (Meluri). We are pretty much like ‘birds of the same feather’. Therefore, fortunately we don’t have many differences. Our approach towards music has similar tastes and ideas.
Manacle Free: Not enough is a song for those boys and girls out there who are left wanting more yet couldn’t get enough of the love they deserve. It is an expression of desolation and at the same time an earnest desire to be in the company of their loved ones. The song gives the Vivid picture of how one can inflict pain and break a person if one’s love is not genuine, hypocritical and short-lived.
Manacle Free: So far, it is all about experiences and memories. We started with performing gigs in the backyard during free time, singing at local events and marriage parties. We have no proper formal training, but we believe that we have not wasted what God had given us. Somewhere along the way, we are certain that we have brought smiles on people’s faces.
I think it is not proper for us to claim that we are special or better. It is about what drives us, our inspiration and motivation.
Manacle Free: Next, we don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. Like we always say, we would love to make music that can evoke the importance of peace and unity in our land. Thank you.
