KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 16: Rhitso Mero scored a hat-trick as Barak FC trounced Lerie Youth FC 4-0 to become the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals of 22nd edition of Classic Cup tournament here at Kohima local ground.
Rhitso Mero produced his hat-trick within 20 minutes of the first half to give Barak FC a comfortable lead before the interval.
The centre forward netted his first goal in the 5th minute, followed by the second in the 7th minute. He went on to score his hat-trick goal in the 20th minute.
In the second half, Barak FC made it worse for the Lerie Youth FC as Nighatu scored the fourth goal for Peren team and sealed the match 4-0. Salube of Barak FC was booked during the match.
In the second pre-quarterfinal match, Addax FC downed Tyrants FC 5-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. Punuru scored a hat-trick to steer his team to the round of last eight.
Addax FC drew first blood in the 11th minute through Punuru, followed by his second in the 12th minute. It was a blunder on the part of Tyrants FC as they allowed their opponents to score three goals inside three minutes as the third goal for Addax FC was scored by Akhrielie in the 13th minute.
Tyrants FC came back into the game in the 17th minute when Viseyie scored to minimise the margin. They were given a lifeline again when Chetso scored the second goal in the 55th minute.
However, Addax FC responded well to take the double lead again when Neikethozo scored the fourth goal in the 57th minute. Minutes before the final whistle, Punuru netted his hat-trick goal to take the scoreboard to 5-2.
Trailing by three goals, Tyrants FC pressed hard which led to the third goal scored by Meyiezo in the 62nd minute. Akhrielie of Addax FC and Vitha of Tyrants FC were cautioned with yellow cards during the match.
With their respective victories, Barak FC and Addax FC will play against one another in the first quarterfinal on November 22.
