Dimapur, May 7
Naga civil bodies have asserted that Nagaland cannot be categorized as terrorist state and that Disturbed Area Act (DDA) be immediately revoked to create conducive atmosphere for peace process.
“Peace process and hostility cannot go hand in hand and that extension of Disturbed Area Act (DAA) covering entire Nagaland and invoking AFSPA and other anti-terrorism laws against the citizens have no justification and therefore unacceptable.”
They also claimed that illegal influx and inter-state cross voters have led to malpractices during electoral process.
The interactive meeting of NTC, ACAUT, NGBF, DDGBA, YAN, SN with CEO and colleagues from state election department and deputy commissioner at Bookmarc, Dimapur today unanimously resolved to urge the state government to extend Inner Line Permit coverage to the entire territorial jurisdiction of Nagaland. The house maintained that the entire state is a tribal belt and cannot segregate any area as non-tribal belt. The meeting also said that the menace of illegal influx and inter-state cross voters are responsible for lack of good governance in the state.
NTC President Lendinoktang Ao and General Secretary Nribemo Ngullie in statement said, “District administration and GBs are largely responsible for issuing proof of antecedents to the foreigners, illegal immigrants and floating population in the state. The district administration and the GB federation of Nagaland were urged to sensitize and check random issuing of residential proof certificate and thereafter remove illegal entries in the electoral roll.”
“Clean election is the urgent need of the day to restore good governance in the state and purification of E-Roll is the basis for free and fair election. It is the duty of every citizen and the state machinery to bring about correct electoral roll and enable the citizens to practice ‘One Man One Vote’ to elect the genuine representative to the house of people.”
Meanwhile, the meeting resolved to constitute a Co-ordination Committee comprising of two members each from NTC, ACAUT, NGBF, YAN and SN to monitor the concerns expressed in the meeting with Lima Imchen, IPS (Rtd) as convenor and Leonard Aier as legal advisor.
