Dimapur, June 3 (EMN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Wednesday asked the government of Nagaland to immediately revoke the ‘decision of the Cabinet to send Covid-19 positive patient to various districts’ by revising the recently issued standard operating procedures (SOP).
The NPF adopted several resolutions at a meeting attended by the party’s legislators and officials at TR Zeliang’s residence in Dimapur on June 3, informed an update received here.
The house lauded healthcare workers, Village Councils, Church bodies, community-based organisations and those working in the frontlines against the Covid-19 in the state. Meanwhile, it condemned the recent decision of the state government to send off returnees to Tuensang from Kohima, terming it as a “disastrous step” and “unfortunate”.
“The state government should provide seeds for crops as the people were not able to cultivate on time due to lockdown throughout the country. Small and marginal businessmen and entrepreneurs must be provided economic stimulus for recovery,” read one of the resolutions.
Stating that the state government imposed Covid cess on petrol and diesel despite opposition from several NGOs and political parties, it claimed the move has led to sharp price-rise of all commodities, and thus increasing the burden of common people.
The party also stated that it would continue to safeguard the interest and well-being of the citizens of Nagaland in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.
In a separate statement issued by its press bureau, the NPF stated that the Gauhati High Court, in its latest hearing on June 2, had directed the speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly to conclude the disqualification proceedings of 7 MLAs (NPF) and pass appropriate orders within six weeks.
“The Court has directed the petitioners as well as the respondent to appear before the respondent either in person or through their authorised representatives on 8th June 2020 to receive further instructions to enable the respondent to conclude the proceeding within the specific period of time allotted by the Court,” the press release read.
It stated that “substantial progress have already been made in the adjudicatory process of the Disqualification Petitions by the Speaker leading to framing of issues as far back as on 21st March 2020”. “But having noted the fact that issues to be decided in the Disqualification Petitions have already been framed on 21st March 2020 and thereafter, no further progress have been made in the proceeding, so the Court is of the considered view has directed the Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly to conclude the Disqualification Proceedings in a given time allotted,” it stated.
The party expressed hope that the NLA speaker “will use his good office in adjudicating the matter without any further delay and with fairness”.
