- KOHIMA — In an
effort to promote organic practices on agriculture and allied sector, the
residents of Phek village have resolved to impose complete ban on application
of chemical and other substances.
- The resolution to this effect was taken during a seminar on
“Embracing organic living, a key to healthy future,” organised by the Phekmi
Collegiate Forum (PCF) in Phek village on April 12. The programme was sponsored
by Kuzholuzo Nienu, MLA and Leader of NPF Legislature Party, while the poster
campaign part was sponsored by Shekhotso Keyho.
- Addressing the gathering as resource person, the
superintendent of police, Phek, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, implored the residents of
Phek village to stay away from chemical land application agents and narrated
some true living consequential incidences due to the chemical residual effects.

- To maintain sustainability, she talked on the subject matter
encompassing the general ideas on how to thrive economically with techniques
and strategies on agro-allied sector.
- Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, senior scientist and head of KVK,
Phek, maintained that apart from all the traditional practices in cultivation,
there is a scientific method that are precise, refined and more accountable
over traditional practices.
- He dwelled on ‘Integrated farming system’ with elaboration
on advantages, projecting subsistence and sustainability by giving importance
on organic practices and the route to organic living.
- Dr. Sharanappa CH, subject matter specialist on plant
protection, talked on the practices and method to eradicate pest and diseases
without the use of chemical substances by adopting cropping strategies to break
the life cycle of the pest/ insects and contain it from further propagation.
