Dimapur, June 19 (EMN): Residents of Phuvkiu village under Pungro sub-division in Kiphire district have observed the 6th ‘Phuvkiu Day’ anniversary in the village council hall on June 18. Residents have been observing ‘Phuvkiu Day’ on June 18 after the village nomenclature was changed from Chomi to Phuvkiu since 2013.
‘Phuvkiu Day’ is being celebrated after they researched the origin of their ancestor’s genealogy for the past so many decades.
Speaking at the programme, N Sachu John, AEO, pointed out that ‘Phuvkiu’ is the origin of their pioneers’ village. He said celebration of ‘Phuvkiu Day’ is the most momentous in the history of Phuvkiu villagers. Sachu also urged upon the people to preserve the integrity, tradition and cultural values and keep it alive for the generations to come.
The programme was presided over by chairman of Phuvkiu village council, Y Khiutsikiu, while the invocation was pronounced by catechist CKC Phuvkiu, Repewmew. The welcome address was delivered by second head GB, Kiusumew, and the significance of ‘Phuvkiu day’ was highlighted by former VCC, Rukhiukiu.
Folk song was presented by GBs of Phuvkiu village, while special prayer was offered by pastor PBC, Kumkiu, and the vote of thanks was proposed by VDB secretary, Azikiu Abraham.
