We were shocked as well as concerned when we heard that the Old Dhansiri bridge located at Kuda Village was on the verge of collapse and for which reason, both vehicular and pedestrian movement were temporarily closed by the District Administration on 20/07/2017, for public safety. However, on 2/08/2017, showing concern for the plight of the public, the Hon’ble Chief Minister along with some of his cabinet Ministers visited the site. It was later learnt through the local dailies (published on 4/08/2017) that the Chief Minster has given his assurance to the public of a new Dhansiri bridge at Kuda Village, the construction of which would be completed by June 2018. Meanwhile a Bailey Bridge will be constructed within a span of two months which will serve as an alternative for the pedestrians, it was learnt. We are indeed very grateful to Hon’ble Chief Minister for this prompt action.
However, till such bridges can be constructed, the public, especially the school-going children, will have to continue using the damaged Old Bridge going to and fro from school. The undersigned therefore, would like to request the Government and the concerned Department to make a thorough inspection of the bridge for any safety hazards which is imperative for the safety of the pedestrians. It is also our sincere request that the general public be informed of the safety status report of the bridge - whether it is still safe for the students to walk across it.
We request and anticipate your early reply in the local dailies.
