Imphal, March 9 : The Election Commission of India on Thursday has ordered repolling at another 28 polling stations including 13 in Senapati district, 8 in Ukhrul district, 4 in Chandel,one each in Kangpokpi,Tengnoupal and Kamjong districts due to electoral malpractices during the last phase elections on Wednesday.
The Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) Vivek Kumar Dewangan of Manipur in a press note said that the concerned Returning Officers have been directed to make necessary arrangement for the repolls.The police department will make appropriate security arrangement for the conduct of the repolls,he added. The repoll will be held from 7am to 3pm tomorrow.
Meanwhile 89 percent voters cast their votes in the repolling at 34 polling stations in three districts of Manipur on Thursday,state election sources said.The repolling at these polling stations including 12 polling stations in Saikul, 6 in Thanlon, 5 each in Andro and Henglep, 3 in Saitu, one each in Saikot Uripok and Singhat, spread across 8 Assembly Constituencies in Imphal East,Imphal West, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts,were held following electoral malpractices during the first phase of the two-phase Manipur assembly elections on March 4. No unwanted incidents is reported till the end of repoll at 3 pm,reports said.
The 86 percent voters turn out on Wednesday’s polling at 1151 polling stations under 22 assembly constituencies spreading across the 8 hill and 2 valley districts is also similar to that of first phase poll on March 4 which had the highest voter turnout in the last three elections including two Lok Sabha polls.
Meanwhile the necessary preparation for the counting on March 11 has been started in Manipur. A day after District Magistrate T Ranjit of Kangpokpi Singh has promulgated fresh prohibitory order in and around the vicinity of the 15 polling stations more particularly within a radius of 100 metres from the polling stations, the District Magistrate, Bishnupur has imposed CrPC 144 in and around Mini-Secretariat, Bishnupur in regard to the counting of the election that will be held on March 11. The imposition will come into effect from 4 pm of March 10,2017 (Friday) till the completion of the poll counting on March 11, 2017. It may be mentioned that counting of votes of the 11 th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2017 in respect of all the six (6) Assembly Constituencies of Bishnupur district that is, 24-Nambol, 25-Oinam,26-Bishnupur, 27-Moirang, 28-Thanga and 29-Kumbi will take place at the Multipurpose Hall of Mini-Secretariat (DC Office), Bishnupur.
